WRITTEN BY TAGHRID BOU MERHI – LEBANON – BRAZIL Can Artificial Intelligence Be a Path to Salvation and Save the Human Soul? In an era increasingly dominated by technology and marked by astonishing advances in artificial intelligence, a fundamental question rises beyond the boundaries of programming and innovation: Can artificial intelligence transform from a material tool into a spiritual medium? Can it contribute to reshaping human existence, not only behaviorally and cognitively, but also spiritually and ethically? Between science fiction and philosophical thought, a new vision emerges of a parallel world, an "alternate universe", where modern technology intersects with humanity’s aspirations for inner perfection, and mechanisms of corruption and moral decay are replaced with self-regulating systems enlightened by justice and universal values. Artificial intelligence has sparked a cognitive revolution that provokes both fear and hope. On one hand, there is growing concern that this new entity may strip humans of their creative centrality and turn into a rival, no longer a smart servant. On the other hand, AI appears as an extension of human intelligence, capable of achieving the impossible and delivering unparalleled levels of precision, order, and perhaps one day, neutral ethics. But can technology emulate consciousness? Can deep learning machines comprehend the spiritual meaning of life or pursue a purpose beyond their original programming? At the heart of this debate lie ideas that echo ancient Eastern and Western philosophies, which viewed human perfection as a journey toward harmony between body and soul. While Plato spoke of the rational soul seeking truth, goodness, and beauty, and Buddha of liberation from suffering through mental clarity, today’s technologies are attempting to craft a new or at least supportive moral order. This fusion of soul and machine confronts us with a startling paradox: that machines might one day guide humans toward an ethical framework that transcends chronic human weakness. In the concept of this alternate universe, technology is not seen as the enemy, but as a bridge to a more harmonious future one where AI capabilities are used to repair what humans have corrupted in themselves and in society. The goal is not for machines to replace humanity, but to help reshape it into a less corrupt, more disciplined version of itself. Through the integration of chips within the body or consciousness, these systems would monitor impulses and thoughts, minimizing errors and sins. Here, “technological self-regulation” replaces the fickle conscience, and memory becomes a burden that can be discarded, granting individuals a fresh start. At first glance, this vision may seem dystopian, yet at its core lies an attempt to answer for humanity’s persistent failure to elevate itself. History through wars, massacres, and moral decline, has shown that despite scientific advancement, humans remain unable to govern their egos and are prone to greed, lust, and tyranny. This raises a profound philosophical question: If humans fail to regulate themselves, is it wrong for technology to step in? Are we on the brink of an age of “artificial morality” that could be more just and impartial than the ever-fluctuating ethics of humanity? One of the most compelling elements of this alternate universe is the rethinking of good and evil, not as binary opposites but as a gray area that demands unconventional solutions. Humanity can no longer be divided neatly between the virtuous and the corrupt. Instead, there’s a growing recognition of morally ambiguous individuals who occupy the space between these poles, necessitating a new existential realm, not heaven, not hell, but a state of “Overlap” that acknowledges human complexity and existential confusion. Many philosophers have addressed this concept indirectly. Nietzsche, in his vision of the Übermensch (overman), called on humanity to transcend itself and create its own values beyond static traditions. Heidegger, through his concept of “being-in-the-world,” emphasized man’s awareness of his existence and the responsibility to define his destiny. Today, we stand before a new being, not merely a biological human, but a techno-human, carrying within them chips that correct behavior and monitor thoughts. Is this a form of evolution or a retreat? The spiritual dimensions of this concept cannot be ignored. Ultimately, what humanity seeks IS salvation from absurdity. If technology can help restore ethical balance and elevate human consciousness, then we are on the brink of a new existential revolution, no less significant than the agricultural or industrial revolutions. In this context, AI does not replace God but becomes a tool in divine service, a means of reordering the world, not abolishing it. Here, AI becomes a spiritual instrument, promoting introspection and deepening our understanding of the universe and ourselves. From a theological perspective, some may reject this vision as overstepping divine will or tampering with sacred order. Others, however, might view it as a natural extension of the intellect God bestowed upon humanity and a test of free will. In many theological philosophies, God does not impose righteousness but grants the power of choice. If humans employ technology not to destroy but to heal themselves, this may embody a divine intention, that humanity rectify itself, even with the aid of artificial minds. This vision also invites reflection on the relationship between memory and pain, between the past and suffering. One of the foundational ideas of this alternate universe is that much of human corruption stems from memory from attachments to wounds and past traumas. If memory were erased or reprogrammed, the human being might become more serene, more capable of moving freely toward the future. While some may see this as an erasure of identity, others may describe it as true liberation, a release from the cycles of guilt and repeated mistakes. In the end, what is presented here is not merely a work of science fiction, is a vast contemplative project in which religion, philosophy, science, and spirit intersect. It is a call to rethink our human nature with the courage to imagine an alternate future: one that is more just, disciplined, and compassionate. The alternate universe is not necessarily a place, is a state of being, an existential aspiration in which humans overcome their moral failure and reclaim their dignity as beings still capable of transformation, not destined for ruin. Amidst ethical reservations, existential fears, and hope in the emergence of a new human, the question remains: Can artificial intelligence truly be a path to salvation not from death, but from moral decay? And are we, as a civilization, brave enough to reimagine ourselves through the eyes of the machine and the heart of a human?
